90 Second Review: Hannah (Daughters of the Sea) by Kathryn Lasky

Hannah (Daughters of the Sea) coverI wish there had been more splash to this mermaid tale (sorry for the bad pun), but little happens by way of character growth or plot development, and right when it seems something worthwhile is beginning, the book ends. Abrupt stop. It’s not a bad story, nor horribly told, nor poorly written, however, beyond that there’s nothing to truly recommend it.

90 Second Review: A Certain Slant of Light by Laura Whitcomb

A Certain Slant of LightThis is one of those books one needs to be in the right headspace to read. Its pace can be sluggish with a distinctly classic prose style (think Victorian) despite its modern setting. It’s also one of those books that dredges up a lot of questions about life, identity, conformity, God, the soul, true love, and death. But it doesn’t offer any concrete answers. Beautifully written, and ultimately for the patient philosopher with a keenness for the supernatural.

The Profound First Post

Although this blog is new, I’m not entirely new to blogging and I know that the first post is supposed to say something deeply profound to kick off the site, but…yeah, I got nothin’.

When I’ve written my 100th post, I’ll make sure to come back here and update it with something worthy. Until then, thanks for being you.
